September 19 and 20 (Brisbane)

We woke up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to catch the 6AM bus to the train station to Brisbane. This was our only day in the city and we wanted to make the most of it. After about two hours of traveling we arrived at Central Station. My directions from there said to catch a bus for a couple minutes and the hotel where we were staying wasn’t a far walk. With my sense of direction and my parents having no idea where we were we got lost with while having to transport over 100 pounds of luggage. After about a 30 minute walk through the city we finally found our hotel. My dad wanted to relax a bit and get cleaned up before we walked around the city, so my mom and I grabbed some breakfast and returned to the hotel an hour later. Today was a perfect day for sight- seeing because the weather was a little overcast which made it not so hot and ideal for walking around. My mom had been told by the front desk that we should go to the markets and South Bank. We traveled across the bridge to the other side where my parents were able to see the man made beach area that South bank had to offer. We also walked through the markets where my dad made numerous jokes about some of the items the vendors had to offer. My dad wanted to ride the city cat through the river and just check out a bit more of the area. The boat was packed but it was neat getting to ride up and down. As lunch time came around we got off the boat to head to Queen Street and grab some lunch. Along the way we passed by a casino where I requested we go inside and check it out. I have never gotten to actually play at one of the tables and was eager to try. After standing with my mom and observing one table with a spin wheel, I understood how that game was played. When we found my dad we cashed in a few dollars for chips and decided to test our luck at the table, just one chip each. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful and all of us lost. We left it at that and departed from the casino where my dad picked the first restaurant we came to. When lunch was finished we walked through the city, while Brisbane is a cool place it is mainly shopping, which doesn’t interest my father too much. He didn’t feel up for standing outside of clothing stores all day so we walked back to the hotel. He thought it would be a good idea to hang out and get a little rest before his long flight tomorrow because he knew he wouldn’t be able to get much sleep on the plane. My mom and I didn’t feel like sitting in the hotel room so she did her research and found a fashion museum display for us to check out. It had dresses that famous people in Australia had worn throughout different periods of time in history. There was even an outfit worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City. After a week and days worth of sightseeing and traveling we were exhausted so we went back to the hotel once more and hung out before we headed to China Town in Fortitude Valley for dinner. That night we had a Chinese feast enjoying all different types of food. It was a great end to a fabulous week with my parents.

Sunday was the last day with my parents. We woke up in the morning and took our time getting ready and packing up. My parent’s flight was due to leave at 11:00AM and they needed to be at the airport at 8:00AM. My mom had matching shirts for her and I that said the University of the Sunshine Coast and we both wore them. We were able to get a couple of photos before we had to get into the cab. The cab dropped me off at the train station where I said my goodbye.

I had such an amazing time with my parents and can’t describe what it meant to have them come to visit me and experience a little bit of my adventure with me. It’s hard to believe that it has been about a month since they were here!
